Several years ago, the Mt. Lebanon Police Department started the Adopt-A-Business initiative in an effort to proactively address everyday issues that face the businesses community.  The basis of the initiative is to foster better communication between the businesses and the police department.

Originally started in the Washington and Beverly Road business districts, the program has expanded to include all of the businesses located in Mt. Lebanon.  Several officers have been chosen and are assigned to businesses in certain sectors of the community.  Businesses are able to contact their sector officer through email, voice mail, and face-to-face communication to ask questions, provide information and report non-emergency concerns.

Occasionally, the officer assigned to each business will stop by and speak directly with the business contacts and employees to discuss issues and provide information in person.  During other times, the businesses have access to officer’s email and voice mail for any questions or issues that arise.

Businesses are encouraged to converse with the officer assigned to their business to address security concerns, customer problems, or general questions about happenings in the community.

Should businesses encounter an emergency situation, employees should immediately contact the Allegheny County Emergency Dispatch Center by dialing 9-1-1 and having an officer currently on patrol respond to assist.

MLPD hopes that this initiative will strengthen the relationship between our businesses and the police to build a stronger and safer community.
